Afi Labs started life as a side project while I was a graduate student at the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab.

I was passionate about solving problems at the crossroads of operations research and computer science, so when the Singapore Land Transportation Authority asked me to build an app to monitor and improve the performance of Singapore public bus fleet, I jumped at the chance. This marked the beginning of my software consulting career.

Over time, the projects I took on grew in size and complexity, and I hired a team to help me code while I handled sales and managed client relationships.

Some of my earliest projects include designing a transportation management system for a freight forwarder based in Singapore and building a route optimization and scheduling tool for a grocery delivery startup.

Since 2013, we've built custom logistics platforms on Google Maps Platform for FreshDirect, Go Jek, and Nash, plus hundreds of last mile delivery and transportation operators worldwide. We combine deep expertise across the full Maps stack (Route Optimization API, Navigation SDK, Places API, and more) with the operations research fundamentals to know when to deploy a Google Maps API and when to build a custom solution instead.
